After much thinking, this is what I think should be done about the Babri Masjid conflict. All the arguing parties must be told to go home and forget it.

The whole land should be returned to the Earth - Nature. Nothing built. Left to grow wild. Totally wild. After all, before a Masjid, before a Temple, it belonged to the Earth. And there it should go back after her kids failed to be human in their devotion.

There should be no maintaining, nothing. Let it just be and go wild. Let trees and plants do what they will, animals find shelter, whatever.

It should be a monument to the price people demand and pay in the name of religion.

People who lose loved ones to religious conflict should be allowed to look in through gates and rest the memory of their loved ones here. As a country, as a world, it should be the only living monument and place of worship that can't be entered. A monument of absence. The absence of humanity.

Congress Leader Dharamveer Goyat

"90 per cent of the girls want to have sex intentionally. But, they fail to realize they would find some lusty people who would gang rape them."

Jitendar Chataar, Khap Panchayat leader

"Poverty and intoxication are the main reasons for rape as well as young people sitting together the wrong way. But also eating chowmein causes a hormonal imbalance which is a big reason for rapes."

rape cases are on a rise in the country because men and women interact with each other more freely now

Time for a new dose of the same old. Mamata Banerjee thinks that rapes happen because men and women interact freely. Inexplicably in almost the same breath, she also blamed media for rising rapes by highlighting rape cases. Yeah, kill the messenger. But it doesn't stop there. Continuing with the overall theme of illogical, she then claims the rapes are complete inventions by the media. So get this straight, free interaction between men and women is responsible for rapes that are actually caused by media highlighting something that didn't happen? Makes a lot of sense.

"Earlier if men and women would hold hands, they would get caught by parents and reprimanded but now everything is so open. It's like an open market with open options," she said. "Everyday rape incidents are being highlighted as if the entire state has become the land of rapists. Rape is sought to be glorified by these people. This will not be tolerated by people. I would like to say that negative journalism only destroys and it is time to champion positive journalism," she said.

I suppose in Mamata land, it would be too much to expect that rapists rape because they are criminals. Must not hurt feelings of rapists by talking like that.

A country that does not take rapes seriously is a part of the problems facing a huge chunk of the world

This month, Haryana has seen 11 rapes. Yet, a glance through headlines has no mention of any government authority making any kind of statement over it. Atrocities against dalits are on the rise in Haryana. Many of the rape victims are dalits. In some cases, there are gang rapes of dalits leading to at least two suicide attempts.

In the face of this, a media which can report the score does not see the need to confront police officials, Chief Minister, Home minister, Union ministers, Women's Commissions or anyone in a position of authority to address this. What des this say about our media? More importantly, is this because media aren't interested in dalits?

Shame, media, you earn your place on the wall of shame.

Where is the government when people suffer? Where is the media when the anguish of the people needs answers?
