Airtel Threats

The background to this story is when Airtel overbilled me, and refused to revise the bill. Then, they got me to pay Rs.2,500/- as settlement against a bill of 9k, but credited the amount against the outstanding and started demanding I pay the balance.

Now, things are taking a strange turn, where this woman is calling me up for money. She doesn’t sound like a call center employee/legal professional. She called the landline at my husband’s place, which I recently left.

My husband gave her my father’s number, and she called him and spoke of court cases and stuff till my father told me to pay her whatever she wanted, because he didn’t want trouble.

I was visiting my husband’s place to collect some important stuff, and I took my father’s phone with me so that I could speak with this woman.

She made some 10-12 calls at least. Redialling immediately after I disconnected, and demanding for money.

I made a police complaint against her for harassment. Constant calls, taunting tone. Asked me to come to court tomorrow. @airtel_presence

She kept asking me to pay up and refused to listen to any explanations that the dispute was ongoing. She wanted the balance payment and she was trying to intimidate me all through.

When she threatened to access my outgoing calls and call everyone on the list, I was exiting the station at Borivali and headed straight to the police station, where they filed a complaint under 504 and 506 against her.

Made a complaint at the Borivali Police Station. They filed it under 504 and 506. Woman Sonia Singh calling from 61560810 @airtel_presence

Later in the evening, she made several calls asking why I made the police complaint and that she had only asked for my outstanding to be paid, and that such complaints will not stop her and to come to the court, etc.
I told her that the complaint was made specifically because she threatened to access my data. She confirmed that she would indeed make calls to everyone on my outgoing calls list and she stated that this was normal procedure.
On disconnecting, she kept redialling. It sounded personal. Stuff like “what will you do?” “If you want to use expensive services and don’t want to pay, then we will make sure you pay, no?” etc.
The woman sounds seriously “tu hai meri kiran” types. Now she called because I made the police complaint. @airtel_presence

I had attempted several times to explain to her the details of the dispute around my bill. She wanted to have nothing to do with it. Said it in so many words. She wanted me to pay up. Bas, that is it. I explained that the latest call from Airtel’s corporate office in Delhi had promised to investigate the issue and would get back to me in two days… she wasn’t interested.
I TOLD her that chaps in Delhi were supposed to revert to me in 2 days. She wouldn’t listen at all. @airtel_presence

I explained to her that this style of talking was highly unprofessional and she was jeopardizing her job, because I would be complaining. She pretty much told me to do whatever I wanted to and it wouldn’t make any difference and to pay up.
@primary_red quite insane. It was sounding increasingly personal. @airtel_presence

It’s not just “stately avenues” of Delhi that are lost in daydreams but also our cheerleading commentariat & our irresponsible opposition

Apparently there is some system where companies sell their debt to private goons – obviously the woman was one of those. I think this is an extremely dangerous idea, because the woman sounded drunk on her own power and utterly unbothered about customers.
My father on the other hand has health issues, and these kind of menacing calls about your daughter for money are enough to get anyone scared. Is this really what we use your services for, Airtel? For our bills to be inflated and then to be thrown to predatory collectors?
Bottom line being, if Miss Psycho trips her sanity and ends up actually hurting me or my loved ones, will you, the phone service provider assume responsibility? My deal was with you when I booked the phone, not some enforcers of dubious legal status.
@primary_red that explains why she didn’t sound callcenterish. lol… so THIS is the legal dept O_O rental goons! @airtel_presence

What is more, my complaint has officially escalated to the “legal department”. If this is Airtel’s legal department, I shudder to think what their less than legal department looks like.
When they defrauded money from me the last time, they called themselves the legal dept. figures. #fuckyouairtel

So my question right now is who the fuck runs Airtel? The goons calling me, the folks in Delhi who called me, or who? @airtel_presence

I don’t know if justice is possible on this nonsense. Frankly, the stages this thing has gone to, I am wondering if they are bothered about law at all.

If you head honchos who spoke to me on phone are listening, please note, your corporate office is making committments your field offices can’t respect. What respect should I give you?

Update: The woman called again this morning (25th July 2011) asking me why I didn’t come to court yesterday (Sunday!?!) and to pay the money and that she wouldn’t stop calling. Today, I was late speaking after answering the call, and she was in full spate of abuse. Full on. Disconnected. She called again. Switched off phone.

Update: 19th Aug 2011 – Last few days, she has started calling up again.
