Musings 27th Aug 2011

Collection of stray thoughts worth remembering. Planning to make a habit of recording thoughts worth coming back to in the future.

A lot of Team Anna action these days. I keep inquiring my own stands, and support, and I find things different every day, so not exactly innovative thoughts, some of these, but keeping them anyway.
Good morning, and I welcome you to a day filled with a whole lot of nothing on the Lokpal front. Our national bird should be an ostrich.

A question that bothers me often. Our elaborate red tape is designed for the haves to use easily, but the homeless, migrants and other people who don’t own homes or rent homes where bills and such would be possible (slums, etc) have little choice but bribery to get essentials like phone, electricity or gas.
What do homeless people do about proof of residence?

Forget homeless. Someone leaves home for whatever reason – divorce, family kicking out… Stay on rent. how do they get proof of residence?

Even the homeless need things with proof of residence – mobile phones, bank accounts?

My phone does more things than I can understand, but it didn’t make coffee this morning.

I don’t see the point in abolishing the death penalty unless there is provision for offering some freedoms if a prisoner reforms.

I think it is more cruel to hold a person in a cage till he dies than it is to kill him.

What we need is for the speaker to say “Shut the fuck up. Next person to speak out of turn is a corrupt scammer”

The criticism or praise of anyone including anna boils down to what we consider important. Seek good, find good. Seek evil, find evil.

To compare anna with the taliban takes an active imagination. Big compliment to taliban and i am sacred that intellectuals see them thus.

I smoke. I drink. At least a few at ramlila ground too. Why am I not opposing anna instead? Because it is not the agenda of the movement.

Funny part is, those who don’t seem particularly attached to drinking have voiced greatest concern about anna’s stand on drinking.

When information doesn’t translate into wisdom, you have endless arguments without understanding.

A hypothetical practical question. If the majority in a democracy support authoritarian methods, is it the end of democracy?

Behavioral observations on change and how people engage in the process.
Remembering an old hypothesis on change. Three kinds of people. Leaders, followers and observers. Leaders initiate, followers sustain…
Vidyut
August 27, 2011
The real resistance to change comes from observers because they have little role and thus have no reason to undergo discomfort of change.
Vidyut
August 27, 2011
Observers are parasitic in their process. They react to change without participating and usually derail or add inertia.
Vidyut
August 27, 2011
Observers play an important role when things happen to east because their clutter forces linear thinking to branch as well as refine.

And no, I am not calling critics of IAC observers though there seems to be some corelation. Constructive opposition is leadership too.

Change is not assumed good, not is no change assumed bad. This is strictly about how people engage in the process of change.

If Anna’s methods are like the Taliban, I am seriously concerned by how blind our intellectuals are to what the Taliban is.

These comparisons to cruel entities also make me wonder how desensitized we are to violence, that we find it is no difference.

One may argue to the end of the earth if Anna is Hitler or Taliban, but you know when you wouldn’t shit your pants.

Mistake to call this a victory for Team Anna. There is a long way to go, and the govt pattern is to follow any give with a slap down.

August 27, 2011
I think this is a good point for Team Anna to take a breather, Anna to recover his health and develop strategies for communication.
Vidyut

I support Team Anna, yes. But there have been several reckless statements that add fuel to fire and bring into question honesty of intent.

This pause that is happening should be used to develop clarity on objectives and learn to not get hooked into tussles.
