What a beautiful, powerful, inspiring revolution. Over 400 cities in India and abroad, lakhs of people (possibly more – lost track), one demand from India irrespective of caste, class, religion, location, lobby or any of your usual whatchamacallits.
An ex-soldier and ex-cop standing on the forefront of challenging the government to do the right thing. Religious leaders standing shoulder to shoulder regardless of religion. Differences rendered irrelevant when the message is simple, universal.
Protests spreading like wildfire, stakes rising higher with each day and not a single incident of violence, someone worried about violence or anyone urging peace. No need. Didn’t occur to anyone. Not even our happy to suppress protests government that happens to be looking for excuses to squash this movement thought of it even as a distraction technique.
We are currently a country with two areas secured by forces and the red corridor ablaze with violence. Elections are on in places, other violence is happening as routine. All of it irrelevant to Anna Hazare’s fast for the Jan Lokpal Bill, that is the one shaking the government. In other countries, this would lead to ‘fears of collapse’. In India, it is leading to a confrontation of fears of change.
We are having an uprising, a revolution without overthrowing the government. Without needing insane policing. The message is clear. No frills needed or attempted.
Do you see the power India can hold? Be a part of it.
