As part of the ‘Day against Hatred’, residents of Khirkee Extension will come together to oppose the hatred that is being propagated against the Muslim community and other minority groups from 10-12 September 2017.

The silence has been broken. A protest initiated in June 2017 by the #Notinmyname campaign spread to 26 cities and towns across India. Thousands of Indians stood up to say NO to hatred and violence in the name of religion and caste. That was a moment of pause. Even the Prime Minister spoke up, briefly, but there has been no discernible follow up action. The lynchings and assaults on Muslims, Dalits, Adivasis and other minorities have not stopped.

We now propose to observe Sunday 27 August 2017 as a day to categorically #SayNoToHatred! In Delhi and Gurgaon a programme has been initiated to trigger 100+ events, protests, and actions on 27 August 2017. These will be spread across residential areas, on streets and important intersections, everywhere where people want to join in and say – #NafratKeKhilafDilliKiAwaaz

This is a citizens campaign and the entire organising is through the effort of citizens of Delhi. Poets, artists, performers, musicians, story tellers, theatre practitioners of the city are gearing up to perform at Bawana, Meena Bazaar, Madanpur Khadar, Mangolpuri, Jamia Nagar, Khirkee, Basti Nizamuddin, Mandi House, Kathputli Colony, Vasant Kunj, Nizamuddin, R.K. Puram, Leisure Valley Park Gurgaon, Sikanderpur Gurgaon and many, many other locations.

All those who came together in the #NotInmyname campaign on 28 June 2017 – filmmakers, artists, dancers, performers, teachers, students, working people and all other citizens – are all even more certain that we will not remain silent. We will protect the constitution and the rights it promises to all Indians. Everyone is welcome to join, but as before, without party and organizational banners and logos.
Come join us!

#SayNoToHatred!

I'm usually a poet, but my responses to current events and politics often take a more prosaic form. I am also curious about everything. Tell me something new.
