FREE HADIYA: MASS DEPUTATION TO THE CJI, 31st Aug, 2pm, gather outside Agha Khan Hall (Bhagwan Das Road) near Supreme Court*
Why has a high court sentenced a 24 year old woman student to house arrest, to “the custody” of her father, against her wishes, in complete violation of a woman’s constitutional rights? Why is an adult woman imprisoned in the ‘home’ she had run away from, with no access to phone or internet, with no visitors allowed, and with policemen outside the house? Why have the courts refused to acknowledge the wilful conversion of a Hindu woman to Islam, and condemned her as not being “capable of taking a firm and independent decision on her own”? Why has the high court annulled a consensual marriage? Why is both the high court and supreme court reinforcing the Islamophobic propaganda of ‘Love Jihad’ by Hindutva forces?
With these questions and more, let us gather for a MASS DEPUTATION to the Chief Justice of India, on 31st August at 2pm outside Agha Khan Hall on Bhagwan Das Road (near Supreme Court), TO THE DEMAND RELEASE OF HADIA.
THIS IS A JOINT CALL BY DIFFERENT WOMEN’S AND STUDENTS’ ORGANISATIONS.
