How big is the dengue epidemic? There is not much coverage that gives us an idea of the scale, so I have attempted to create a map from various pieces of small news published in different newspapers in last couple of months.

|1,600 cases of Dengue in Jaipur|
1,600 cases of dengue have been reported from Rajasthan including the death of a woman on the 23rd October 2013. (DNA, 23 October 2013)
|109 cases in Goa|
109 cases of Dengue have been reported from Goa this year, 20 of them in October. One person died. There had been 26 cases in 2011 and 39 in 2012. This rise is concerning. (ToI, 26 October 2013)

250 cases of Dengue have been reported from Gurgaon this year. (DNA, 26 October 2013)
|32,000 cases, 100 dengue deaths in India this year|
National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme officials have counted more than 32,000 cases of dengue and 100 deaths in the country this year. With 32,000 cases, 100 dengue deaths in India this year, it is astonishing that Dengue is not claiming more news space in order to spread information and save the lives and health of people. There are 43 confirmed cases of dengue in Ludhiana, while 2 patients suspected to be suffering from dengue have died. There hasn't been official confirmation yet. (ToI, 26 October 2013)

There have been 500 cases of Dengue in Greater Bombay (city and suburbs). (Indian Express, September 30,2013)
|53 year old woman died|
A 53 year old woman from Erandwane died of Dengue at Sanjeevan Hospital. She had developed fever on the 19th and was admitted to Sanjeevan Hospital on October 21 where she tested positive for the dengue antibody test and succumbed to dengue shock syndrome with multi-organ failure at 11.50 am on October 22. Kerala has the highest reported cases of Dengue this year, with 7000 cases recorded so far. (Indian Express, 30 September 2013)
|735 dengue patients in October|
615 dengue patients were treated in private hospitals and 120 in public hospitals.

Ahmedabad had 900 odd cases of Dengue this year, and three deaths, one of whom was senior IPS officer Rahul Sharma's wife, Sumita. (Indian Express, September 30,2013)
|Assistant Municipal Commissioner and 8 year old daughter are down with dengue|
Assistant municipal commissioner Chandrashekhar Chore is down with suspected dengue.
Ninety-two mosquito breeding sites were found in Byculla of which 69 were in residential areas. Of the 69, 56 were indoors.
In Chembur there are 110 breeding spots. Up to 50% of these spots are inside people’s homes in housing societies. This is definitely a cause for worry,” said Mhaiskar.

|Dengue fever cases in Delhi may be more the 3500 than reported|
Several news reports have been emerging on and off that the number of cases of dengue fever in Delhi may be dramatically reported. Independent reports speak of hospitals being full with dengue patients and not able to take in more. Doctors have spoken with AFP off record and informed that they were seeing 60 new patients each day. However, the official figure stands at only 3,500 cases and 5 fatalities. Other reports speak of doctors and hospital staff feeling overwhelmed by the influx.

|Odd symptoms of dengue fox doctors|
Doctors are reporting strange symptoms of dengue like fluid in lungs, abdominal pain, elevated liver enzymes, sore throats and even loose bowels, which are confusing diagnosis till the classic symptom of drop in platelet counts is found. (TOI, 25 October 2013)

An outbreak has been mentioned as reported from Samba Jammu, without further details in the Indian Express on 30 September 2013.
|Rajkot has seen 280 cases of Dengue this year including the District Collector|
Rajkot has seen 280 cases of dengue this year, including the District Collector Rajendra Kumar who had to be hospitalized in the first week of September. (Indian Express, September 30,2013)
|Ward C, Mumbai|
All 123 mosquito breeding sites were found outside apartments and housing societies.
|Ward G-south - Worli|
Ward G-south of Worli has recorded up to 138 breeding sites. “Of these, 80 were inside and outside residential buildings in non-slum areas. Residents have to ensure that water does not stagnate in their localities and inside their houses, particularly in plant trays, AC ducts, ornamental plants and the like,” said Manisha Mhaiskar, additional commissioner (health), BMC.
